Sponsor a Child

Sponsorship Saves One Life

Sponsor a Child With Love

In Uganda, there are still costs and practical barriers associated with education that can prevent orphaned and vulnerable children from attending school consistently.

These barriers can include school-related costs, long distances, required school supplies and school uniforms.

Your sponsorship can help provide basic physical needs such as food, shelter and clothing, and can also contribute toward medical care.

OCIA's historical sponsorship approach also recognized something beyond material support: knowing that someone cares about a child's life, education and future can itself be meaningful.

How Does My Support Help?

OCIA's legacy sponsorship program identified education, clothing, healthcare and food as important areas of support for children.

Education

Ongoing support can help a child receive the education and learning opportunities they need to work toward a more secure future.

Clothing

Sponsorship support can help provide essential clothing, school uniforms and school shoes.

Healthcare

Support can contribute toward medical care and health needs affecting a child's wellbeing.

Food

Food and nutrition support can help strengthen children and, where appropriate, their families.

Who Are the Children?

OCIA's sponsorship work has historically supported children affected by poverty, homelessness, sickness, family instability and barriers to education.

Children come into support through different circumstances. Some may have lost one or both parents, while others may have been abandoned or may live with relatives or caregivers who need additional support.

Are They All Orphans?

No. The legacy OCIA program supported both orphaned children and other vulnerable children.

The central concern is whether a child needs support, protection, education and a stable environment in which they can grow and develop.

How OCIA Uses Sponsorship Support

Supporting the Whole Child

OCIA's historical sponsorship model pooled support so that resources could contribute toward the wider sponsorship package rather than being limited to one isolated expense.

The legacy program described support for tuition, school materials, school uniforms, meals and school shoes, alongside health and other essential needs.

This approach was intended to make sponsorship support useful across the needs of the children participating in the program.

Local Follow-Up

Local Staff Will Oversee Your Child

OCIA's legacy sponsorship approach emphasized following a child's educational progress through local staff.

The program described working with teachers, caregivers and families so that the people around the child could work together toward the child's goals.

OCIA On-the-Ground Approach

Support Through Different Stages of Development

OCIA described a life-cycle approach to education that considered the needs of children through early childhood, basic education, adolescence and youth.

The goal was to help children continue their education and build the skills and opportunities needed for their future.

Love Has No End

Family and Community Matter

OCIA's legacy child-support material emphasized that orphaned and vulnerable children should grow within safe and supportive family environments wherever possible.

OCIA described working with local families, caregivers and next of kin to help children grow with family support and reach their potential.

Child Safety

Protecting Children Online

OCIA's legacy sponsorship page stated that the organization was careful about children's safety when identifying children through the website and provided more detailed information through direct contact.

The new OCIA public platform continues that principle. Only child profiles that meet the current safeguarding, consent and publication requirements may appear publicly.

Public Information Is Limited

Private child, family, sponsor, consent and internal case information is not shown publicly.
